Countable and Uncountable Nouns
In the last video, from the presentation, you may have heard some sentences such as:
- Karen brought a slice of pineapple, some pieces of papaya, some cookies... and two bottles of water.
- For lunch, Karen usually has chicken with fresh salad, and some rice, and a bottle of water.
- Christian enjoys eating cookies.
- Does Christian like any fruit?
The nouns in blue are called countable nouns: You can count them:
- One cookie, two cookies, three cookies...
The nouns in orange are called uncountable nouns: You cannot count them:
One rice, two rices, three rices...- Some rice, some chicken, some water...
The phrases and nouns in red are called quantifiers; they are used commonly along uncountable nouns, but you can use them with countable nouns.
